War of 1812

In many ways this is America’s forgotten war. Few of theĀ  battlefields are preserved and in some cases are nothing more than a small city park. This was a war where the president commanded troops in the field and the capitol was sacked, so I guess it is not something we really want to remember. Of course it ended well for us with the Battle of New Orleans. Haven’t made it there yet. We are reminded of it almost everyday since a poem penned during it has become our national anthem. Remember that the next time you hear the Star Spangled Banner.
