Not much going on during the week. Spent the week doing a concrete job. I need the exercise and the money wasn’t bad either. Arms and shoulders are a bit sore but that is nothing that a cold beer can’t help with. Nice weather at least for the week, except for Monday when it rained in the afternoon though it has been a bit chilly in the mornings.
On Saturday I drove down to DC so I could finally pick up my beer stein that was held up by Hurricane Florence. I better get it, might forget all about it if I don’t. Since I was going down there I decided to make the most of it. The first stop was at Bladensburg (added to the War of 1812 section) to take in what remains of the battlefield as well as the “offensive” WW1 monument in town. Better get a picture of that before it comes down. Sad. I sure hope the people who are responsible for that never visit Gettysburg, their heads might explode. At the least could they not have waited until after the centennial of the end of the war before complaining? This is what happens when history is not taught in the schools. I wonder if these were the same people that tried to get the Argonne Cross removed from Arlington National Cemetery? With what goes on I wonder if people really don’t have anything better to do with their time. Reminds me of the first Mr. Hanky episode of South Park where everyone was so offended that they brought in someone to redo the Holiday pageant and it just wound up being so dumb.
Then it was down to Nationals Park to pick up my stein that was held up by Hurricane Florence. I parked on N St. right outside of the park and figured this would be a quick in and out. The team website said the store opened at 10 and it was 10:15 but there was not a soul to be found and no gates opened. I walked around the park just in case the team store was the one by home plate but it was the same at every other entrance. So thanks Nats, I’ll have to drive back down to get it.
Then it was on to Mt. Vernon, the home of George Washington. Pics have been added to the Day Trips section. Walked the grounds, saw his grave and toured his home (photography was not allowed in the home, hence no pics). Got a nice walk in. The sun of course came out as I was leaving but I can tell you that I am glad I got there when I ded. The cars were pouring in at around 1 PM when I was leaving. The temps also got up to a glorious 70 degrees. Wound the windows down as I drove to my next stop.
Now it was time for some brewery time. Made a stop at Port City in Alexandria, first time there and I will hopefully be back. I bought a few of their beers at one of my favorite liquor stores in Baltimore so I knew of their beer already. After that it was a stop in at Jailbreak in Laurel for some take home beer and finally ended at South County in Fawn Grove. Jailbreak was absolutely packed. I don’t get down that way much but I figured why not?
No hockey games this week and basketball has not started yet. So on Sunday I sat around doing absolutely nothing. It was fun just me and the two cats. Made chicken stir fry in the slow cooker and did my laundry. Not everyday can be exciting. I did consider walking downtown to get a beer but I decided not to.
The World Series is also set. Hard to pick against Boston. As a Pirates fan I keep waiting for when it will be my turn. Just once I’d like to experience it. Just once….
