Another week in the books. For the most part a dull time during the week. I did go down to John Carroll High School in Bel Air, Maryland to see them play Mt. St. Joseph’s. Mt. St. Joe’s has a player going to Maryland next year, Jalen Smith. He was good but he’ll need to put some weight on to compete in the Big 10. He also won’t be the biggest guy on the court either then. John Carroll had a player going to Kentucky but he was not dressed. Didn’t matter, Carroll rolled over Mt. St. Joe’s easily.
Friday took me up to Allentown to see the Hershey Bears play the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The PPL Center is a beautiful arena and with Fegley’s Brewing across the street it always makes for a good time. The Phantoms demolished the Bears 7-2. The Bears defense is bad but of course they came back the next night and shut out the Milwaukee Admirals. Who would’ve thunk?
Saturday featured York High’s scrimmage with Susquehanna Township. Township was bigger but York was faster. Da High might actually have something this year, not that it’s been all that long since the glory days! It starts with defense and it looks like they’re going to play some this year. The afternoon brought me to York College to watch the Spartans take on Mary Washington. Walked in with one quarter left in the women’s game and they kept Mary Washington at arms length. The men’s game was much closer. The starters played about as bad as you could play for the first 10 minutes but the bench came in and got them back into the game. Some of the same struggles happened in the second half but they righted the ship in the end and pulled one out. I also saw Juniata beat Scranton by about 35. Makes that big York win at Scranton a little less big.
Sunday took me to Lancaster for a brewery tour. Picked up some wares at Lancaster, Spring House, Mad Chef, Wacker and finally had a late lunch at Pig Iron in Marietta. Might wind up coming over to Lancaster for more baseball games next year so lots of places to hit.
