The World Needs More Kevin

This Week in Kevin

A lighter week this week. No hockey on the docket for the first time since the season opened almost two months ago. So, got to enhance my cooking skills this week and spend some quality time with my two loving little fuzzballs. On Monday I took my mom over to Lancaster so she could get her Christmas shopping started and I could pick out the clothes that I am getting for Christmas. It is good timing, I have too many holy socks and boxer shorts. Used to go up to Vanity Fair in Reading but that is nowhere what it used to be and the store in the Rockvale Outlets seem to be pretty much the same now. Took up the entire morning and some of the afternoon. Also made my weekly stop at Gift Horse.

I spent my Tuesday morning sitting at the garage. When I was at the VW place last week I was told one of my tires had a big gash in it and it needed to be replaced so I had a spare sitting around so it was time to use it up. They couldn’t find the gash, heck I got to look at it and I didn’t see a gash, so I still have an extra tire. There was some wear and tear on every tire but no major gashes or slashes, you would expect that after 9 months of use. Good times and I’m glad I didn’t buy two new tires. I’ll get a new set of tires come March and I really don’t plan on driving that far away over the winter time. Probably no further than Reading or Chambersburg.

Wednesday was York College’s home opener against Lancaster Bible. I’ll get to see Lancaster Bible again when Juniata makes a trip there in January. The Chargers have quite a large roster. They’ve had some good years lately but they’ve been big fish in a small pond in their league and that success has not translated into success in the NCAA tournament. York doesn’t play as many home games as last year so I gotta get my money’s worth out of my season pass. It was a bit of a slow start as Lancaster Bible got out to the early lead but York’s Jared Wagner proved that he is still a pest as he picked off several errant passes to put York up. They never looked back and began to build up the lead. Lancaster Bible’s Jordan Shewbridge scored 17 of his team’s first 22 points but by then York was opening up a double digit lead. All of that despite the 3 balls not falling. In the second half the 3’s started falling and York held a comfortable lead for most of the second half. York wins 93-71.

A nice night at home on Thursday and Friday. I enjoyed it. Well not quite, I went down to Collusion for Wing Night. Always something new to try there. I’m getting closer to the Elite badge on Untapped. Should be there by this time next year.

Saturday was the start of the high school basketball season as York High scrimmaged Harrisburg. But it was a closed scrimmage so I didn’t get to see it. Went down to Baltimore to watch York College take on Johns Hopkins. No breweries visited, my dad was driving. I did have a brew at Gift Horse during the afternoon to watch some of the Ohio State/Penn State game. The basketball game was a slog in the first half with poor shooting and poor offense in general. The second half started well for York, going from a one point halftime defecit to a 4 or 5 point lead but then things went down the drain. Hopkins began to hit their threes, they ran their offense and they went up by double figures. That was helped by some poor York shooting (12-38 from 3, 38 3’s?) and some terrible free throw shooting (3-10 from the line is inexcusable!). All that added up and the right team won this one. Johns Hopkins wins 67-57. York has no real post presence and they really don’t have a guy who can create his own shot. Sure they will have some of those games where the 3 ball falls and win big but there might be more of these kinds of games.

Sunday was a boring day. Did my laundry, watched some MST3K and enjoyed the loving company of my two lovable little furballs. First real snow of the year too. Woke up to find it snowing and it laid on the grass and the roofs but was just slush on the sidewalks. Mark it, November 24.
