The World Needs More Kevin

This Week in Kevin

Enjoyed a beautiful day on Monday. Drove around with the sunroof open when I had to go pick my niece up her school bus stop. The big news was that the bat from last week apparently did not take the freedom offered. I found it on the floor in the dining room after I took the trash out. Both of the cats were sniffing it. In this case I appropriated a cardboard box used a broom and gave it its freedom. It wasn’t in the box in the morning so either the squirrels finished it off or it is free again. I will say it was quite impressive that it managed to stay hidden for over a week. It must have been hungry.

Headed up to scenic Shamokin to watch York High take on Dallas on Tuesday. Never been to Shamokin before but I did see that there is a brewery in town. Unfortunately it is closed on Tuesdays so I was out of luck. They’re open every other day of the week but this, just my luck. Maybe I’ll revisit when I head up for a Crosscutter game during the summer since I have wanted to stop in at Old Forge in Danville too. I keep saying I want to get up for multiple games anyway. If only someone could open a brewery in Sunbury, oh wait there is. Looks like I’m in business and there is one in Northumberland too. Excellent.

I’ve never seen Dallas play. They are from up near Wilkes-Barre. I have been in the area since I’ve been to North Slope Brewing. They had no common opponents so I’m going into this one blind. From the Purple Palace in Shamokin, this one was over early. Dallas got up quick fueled by poor York shooting from 3 (surprise surprise) and poor free throw shooting. It wasn’t over but every time York made a run Dallas responded. They were a better version of New Oxford and at the end of the 3rd quarter a kid hit back-to-back 3’s that broke their back. It also didn’t help that York kept fouling at the end despite being down by 15-20 points which allowed Dallas to pad the lead. Dallas wins 78-51 and York’s season is now over. Can’t say I feel bad at this point. I’m more relieved.

I will say that Shamokin needs some serious work in the town. The street signs are almost impossible to read and you could use a few street lights too. It’s not easy getting around that town unless you know where you are going. At least we were not Central on Wednesday who had to travel to Ebensburg to play McDowell. That’s a little too far for a Wednesday night for me. I’d say that’s about 3 hours there from York and it’s 3 hours from Erie so at least that worked out. McDowell won that, which leaves New Oxford as the last remaining boys YAIAA team left. They get to play Milton Hershey at Cumberland Valley on Friday. Somehow they have not had to leave the area yet but should they win that will change.

I am anticipating that the coronavirus will lead to the PIAA playing the state finals in an empty Giant Center. I am also anticipating the same thing happening with baseball or canceling part of the season. If the NCAA is doing it I would imagine that the PIAA will follow suit. At least the games might be on TV. I have one hockey game left, that might not happen either and the worst part is that is a bobblehead game, the first one that they have done in 3 years. And it turned out that about 10 minutes later it was announced that it was all cancelled. This is going to be awfully boring, I guess I’ll get a lot of reading done during this time. Almost done with Kennesaw Mountain, what’ll be next?

With the St. Patrick’s Day parade cancelled my normal St. Patty’s Day routine was thrown out of wack. The Ireland/France rugby match was already cancelled so not much to do. Dad was released from rehab and came home so I did have that in the morning. I also caught half of the replay of England and Wales from last week that took its place. Didn’t catch Joe Marler keeping his hand on the ball with Alan Wyn Jones. My allergies are starting to kick in too. I hope there is no quarantine since they usually go away after the first rain after the first grass cutting of the year. The grass is growing so I might actually be cutting the grass in March this year.

With a lot of time on my hands I did some cleaning around the house. I don’t know if I could handle the boredom spending weeks on end in my house but we’ll find out.
