Well, it got above freezing here for the first time in awhile. Who knew that 40 degrees could feel so good? Made myself a nice birthday dinner of fish and chips and had the Double Chocolate Milk Stout from Lancaster Brewing. I paid for it the next day but it didn’t take long to fight off the hangover. I did stop in at Collusion Tap Works for a birthday beer as well. They make some really good brews there and they are within walking distance of my house. I should go there more often.
The York High/South Western game got iced out until Friday. They got shellacked by Northeastern on Wednesday but I went to watch York College beat Penn State Harrisburg. That was a nice win, York has never beaten them at York, which is strange to say. They’ve done well up in Middletown, so explain that. Real physical game but York prevailed though it got pretty chippy. York will have a target on their back now for the rest of the year being ranked now #8.
On Friday I got tickets for the Penn State/Ohio State ice hockey game in State College as a birthday/Christmas gift. Drove up and dined at Otto’s before the game and had a pint at Happy Valley as well. I’ve seen Division 3 hockey before but this was another level. PSU has a Penguins draft pick from Russia on the team, he was easy to spot since he’s 6-7, and PSU won 5-2. I’m used to seeing pro hockey so having a student section was different to say the least. I think there were 10 Ohio State fans in the building and they all sat in front of me. I’m guessing they were related to one of their players. On the drive to State College I went up the Susquehanna and the Juniata Rivers. I’ve never seen them foggy like they were since the rivers are frozen over but it was 60 degrees that day. I may never see that again.

Saturday took me over to York College to watch the basketball game against Christopher Newport. I walked in with a quarter left in the women’s game and they were down something like 15 points. They nearly pulled it out. The men’s team defeated CNU for the first time as a league foe. CNU has pretty well dominated the league since they came into it five years ago or so and York hasn’t been very good at all so their record against the Captains is not surprising. Won by 10. Did not go to watch York High get shellacked by Harrisburg. I am not surprised that they got beat as bad as they did but they gave up 100 points. Not good.
