All moved in so I am back to the normal grind. I’m still putting stuff away and organizing but I am all moved in. The cats seem to be adapting well. The one is still excited and I let him go up into the attic for the first time. Haven’t let him down into the basement yet. Also got back into rhythm and stopped in at Gift Horse for a brew before heading home. The big question for me will be when the first time I drive to the wrong house will be.
Tuesday brought the South Western Mustangs to York High. South Western is not a basketball school and that showed in the JV game. South Western’s best freshman though is playing varsity and 6’7 not that that would have made much of a difference. Why can’t York ever get someone like that though? The varsity game was a bit closer though after the first quarter it was never really in doubt. The Mustangs couldn’t stop Clovis Gallon Jr. who threw down several highlight reel dunks. Everyone played and scored for York but the Mustangs height did bother them a bit and York did not get as many put back points as they usually do. It didn’t bother them enough though since the Mustangs don’t have much in the way of guard play and York wins 77-49. I’m guessing that York High was trying to rest players since they were going up to Allentown Wednesday to play what should be a much more competitive game.
I celebrate Richard Nixon Day every year and this year it fell on Wednesday. It is a good time. This year I headed up to Middletown to watch York College take on Penn State Harrisburg. Stopped at Funk in Elizabethtown for a celebratory brew and dinner. Got a free beer since I was celebrating our 37th President’s birthday! Tricky Dick may not be our greatest president but there are only so many presidents that we’ve had. Then it was up to Middletown and I arrived for the women’s game, which was not a good game. PSU Harrisburg won 76-69. Score-wise it looks good but it was not well played. It was just one of them please end kinda games.
Then it was on to the men’s game. Harrisburg has been off to a good start but they will be leaving the conference after this year citing inability to compete, which comes as they are now competitive at least in basketball. It was a cold shooting first half but thanks to good defense York had the lead at half. And then in the second half the 3 ball started falling allowing York to open a comfortable lead keeping the Lions at arm’s length for most of the second half. Every time Harrisburg started to comeback someone hit a 3 and quashed the momentum. York wins 68-57. And York High took down the Executive Education Charter Academy by 1 to move to 10-0.
Thursday was a nice night at home. Made my first meal in the new house. Up until now I have either been grabbing something from Sheetz or eating leftover pizza from the move. The stove was hooked up correctly, good job Chris.
Friday brought me up to State College to watch Penn State take on Michigan State in men’s hockey. I got tickets for Christmas and the Pegula Ice Arena is absolutely gorgeous. Throw in some Creamery Ice Cream and it makes for a good night. Dinner was at Otto’s Brewpub and I also made a stop at Happy Valley Brewing for a pregame brew. PSU jumped on Sparty and outside of a spate of poor passing that led to two MSU goals in the 2nd period we’re in charge. Penn State wins 4-2. The only problem is that gametime was 8 PM so I got back well past my bedtime. I haven’t seen 1 AM in a long time. Thanks to this I did miss York High losing to New Oxford. So they won’t got undefeated…
On Saturday St. Mary’s came to York College. I could have gone over to McCaskey to the Central Penn Shootout but I passed. York High beat Bayard Rustin. Still moving stuff in and getting it arranged. The living room and dining room are pretty well done now and the kitchen is just about finished too. St. Mary’s is much improved and from the start took it to York. York hung in there by hitting 3’s but got very little in the first half outside of that. In the second it was a back and forth affair and York took the lead with a 2 minute spurt that put them up 7. While St. Mary’s didn’t go away and both retook the lead and tied the game numerous times York was in the driver’s seat and held on to win 83-78. Too many 3’s though. Too many.
Also the beer bottle collection is pretty much ready for virtual viewing. Click here or visit the Beer section. Unfortunately I did have one casualty, I lost a bottle from El Salvador that is currently in 50 pieces on my back porch (my broom and dustpan are still at the old place). It was stuck in the box and I didn’t realize it was there when I went to collapse it and throw it out since the bottom was pretty well rotted away. Oops. The worst part is I don’t think I can replace it, so scratch that one I guess. I still need to get the collection available for real viewing and then I’ll have some pretty pictures for headings but until then it will look a bit drab. That’ll be a bit since some of the shelves are not even in the house yet.
