So I was sitting down and thinking about where I what I would go see or do if I won the lottery. So here is the list:
- Drive the Dalton Highway in Alaska (and hopefully take a dip in the Arctic Ocean)
- See the Pyramids
- Visit each MLB Park in one season
- Visit each MiLB Park in one season (OK this might have to be done over multiple seasons)
- See Victoria Falls
- Take in the Six Nations Rugby Tournament
- Take in the Rugby Championship
- Visit the Napoleonic-era battlefields in Europe
- Visit the battlefields of World War 1 in Europe
- Visit Greenland and Iceland
- Visit Rome
- Visit Greece
I’m sure there are a few more things that could be squeezed in but these are the major stops. I can dream now can’t I?
On to more important stuff. The sports week started on Tuesday when York High faced undefeated and the greatest team the YAIAA has ever assembled (sarcasm on that) and won in 2 OTs. If York could play like that every game they would be in good shape. There was some semblance of defense, they rebounded fairly well and they shot the ball pretty well. Northeastern can shoot and Antonio Rizzuto is a heck of a player but if they run into a team with a good interior presence they could be in trouble but they are also the best chance the YAIAA has to win a district title. The good times lasted until Thursday when York High was clobbered by New Oxford. The Ox always seem to have the magical ability to never miss a 3 point shot at their house when they play the Bearcats, especially in New Oxford. I was not at the game, I went to beer and wings at Mudhook instead. They are pork loins and not chicken wings and they are huge. It’s going to take me a few days to finish them. Friday landed me at York High for the final home game of the season against South Western. They are bad and the score reflected that, especially since two seniors who sit on the bench got a load of playing time and one had a big game.
Wednesday took me over to York College to see them play Wesley. The game was a 3 point shooting contest and York prevailed. Wesley had little front court depth so they had to rely on the outside shot and they packed it in on defense daring York to shoot. And did they shoot. The game was close until about 1:30 was left when Wesley’s shots just stopped falling. Saturday saw Southern Virginia come to town. After another close first half York opened up a big lead in the second half and won easily.
Also went over to Gettysburg on Saturday. Had a beautiful day but the wind was howling. Visitors were few and far between and I had the battlefield pretty much to myself which is nice sometimes. Following that I drove down to Frederick to visit Flying Dog and Monocacy breweries and then went through Hanover on the way home and hit Something Wicked and Miscreation. Hanover is only like 20 miles from my house but I visit breweries in Lancaster more than I do there. There’s two more to visit in town, one of which I have never been to, so I will be back.
