Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium

Opened: April 19, 1990

Capacity: 5,400

Affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles

I came here for the first time in 2002. I didn’t come back until 2010. I’ve been back for multiple games ever since. It is a relatively easy drive here and I can usually tie in a visit to either Gettysburg, Antietam or Monocacy when I visit plus there are numerous breweries that are popping up in Frederick County. I happened to Google that in 2019 and found 4 I didn’t know about. Francis Scott Key is also buried in the cemetery across the street and the Star Spangled Banner can be heard at his grave.

How did I get there?

US 30 to Gettysburg and then south on US 15 and finally east on I-70. The stadium is right off of the first exit and two turns later I am pulling in the lot. There is an upper and lower lot, both are free. I have also taken the scenic route through town as 15 can backup pretty good and the trip down Motter Ave. is pretty easy plus a couple of breweries are in that end of town.

Ticket prices

This is not a cheap place to see a game, $10 is the cheapest ticket and it goes up to $17. There is a discount if you buy in advance though but that is still expensive for this level of baseball. I try to take advantage of the 2 for 1 offer that Oriole season ticket holders get and they used to run that for every game of the season. In 2017 that became just Monday thru Thursday which is in line with the rest of the Oriole affiliates.

Finding my seat and amenities

Read the signs or else you might be walking around the whole park, not that it will take long but odd numbered sections are in one part of the park and even numbered sections are in another. General admission are the bench seating down both lines. Standard stadium fare though there is a local restaurant that has a stand for burgers, sausages and chicken down the first base line.

In game experience

The usual in-game entertainment. If you go to enough games you will know the answers to the trivia questions which takes the fun out of it. They do have their own 7th Inning Stretch song, Shake Your Keys.

Getting out

It’s easy, two turns and you are back on the Interstate and heading home. The worst part of the trip is Route 30 since I always seem to get stuck behind a Charlie Slopoke, otherwise known as a Chuck or Chuckette.

Wrap

One nice thing about being an Oriole Season Ticket holder is that I could get buy one get one tickets here and unlike their other affiliates I could get them any day of the week. They changed that for 2017. Too bad. There was talk a few years ago about the team moving out, probably down to the Florida State League since the Orioles had just moved to Sarasota but nothing ever came of it. The only quibble I had was that Frederick was being courted by the Atlantic League in the event that happened and the team leaders did not want that to happen. They printed some very misleading things about the Atlantic League to persuade their fan base not to let it happen. The team has drawn well since then, even leading the Carolina League in attendance for several years so it worked out.
