The World Needs More Kevin

This Week in Kevin

Getting closer to Christmas now and I am just about done with my shopping. Hooray for me. Anyway basketball season is in full swing. The high school slate saw me take in York High and New Oxford and York High and Spring Grove this week, York won them both. In the Spring Grove JV game York won something like 76-9 and was up 51-9 at half. That was the first time I ever saw a high school team get held to single digits for a game and not score in an entire half. Spring Grove was just that bad. I did not go to see York and Cedar Crest in Philly.

Also on the high school slate I took in Berks Catholic at York Catholic on Saturday morning. Berks won by 1 with a 3 pointer with about 12 seconds left. A Berks player had a critical block at the end that in York Catholic’s heyday would have probably been goaltending but York Catholic is not the power that it once was. In the evening I took in Solanco at Kennard-Dale. KD recognized its 1993 District champion team and their best player joined the 1,000 point club in the beatdown of Solanco.  Since I went down that way that allowed me a stop at Gunpowder Falls Brewing in Shrewsbury and South County in Fawn Grove to stock up for the holidays.

The college slate was a bit lighter with finals and all. York College did take down #12 Swarthmore this week so good for them. Also I see my alma mater Juniata is also undefeated. It would be the best case scenario for those two to play at the same site to start the NCAA tournament but that is getting way ahead of myself.

On the baseball side I see the Orioles are considering trading Manny Machado and the Pirates are looking for offers for Gerritt Cole. As far as the Pirates are concerned I sure hope Neil Huntingdon asks for more than the Yankees gave up for Giancarlo Stanton!
