The World Needs More Kevin

This Week in Kevin

And of course the lockdown continues. Considering what I am seeing around my neighborhood I am starting to think very few people are heeding it at this point. I’m not, I went back to work but then I have an office by my self and the closest person is 50 feet away from me. Take that Wolf! Hopefully York County will open soon but I’m not holding my breath for it. I don’t need a haircut at the moment but I do miss going to breweries. The day the lockdowns are lifted I’m going to have lunch at Pizza Boy Brewing and then I’ll have a happy hour beer at Gift Horse and Collusion. We can dream can’t we. But as the food supply begins to break down opening back up will be happening by necessity.

So I passed a somewhat normal week since I went back to the office for a few days this week. It feels good. I could say it is good to have a working internet connection but since my brother moved in next door I can mooch his now. OK, I do pay him for this so I’m not a freeloader. Can’t get it all over the house but as long as the Xfinity hotspot is usable out front I’ll be OK.

Got another grass cutting in on Thursday. The grass grew quickly this past week as the weather warms up and we got enough rain too. It was a much cooler day so it was a much easier time cutting it than the last time. I probably should have cut it on Tuesday since we got a good amount of rain on Wednesday but by the time I started the grass was pretty dry. Good sun and a good stiff breeze did the trick.

So I see that ESPN is televising the KBO games. I am pulling for the NC Dinos. Admittedly I only know a handful of Korean players but this team has two players that have impacted me. The first is Mike Wright. I don’t think he’s a very good major leaguer but he did toss me a ball when he was with the Norfolk Tides. I think I’ve mentioned that before. The other player they have is Aaron Altherr who I saw hit an inside the park grand slam when he was with the Phillies (I have the ticket stub to prove it). I think that was the last one that was hit in the majors and that was back in 2015, they don’t happen often. On review it turns out that the Nationals’ Michael Taylor is the most recent from 2017. Before that it was Tampa’s Randy Winn all the way back in 1999.  I thought Altherr could be a star but be never put it together, kinda like Roger Bernadina for the Nats. Why bring that up? I don’t know, just killing time. So, go Dinos. My only disappointment was that their logo was not Dino from the Flintstones. It looks like NC is a Korean video game developer if you are wondering.

I did peruse the rosters and saw a few other names like former Pirate farmhand Adrian Sampson. There’s a few other familiar names there. It’s baseball, unfortunately I don’t have cable to watch it and I am not staying up until 1 AM to watch it. Maybe I can catch a replay sometime. I also saw that NASCAR would be resuming. I am not fan of NASCAR but it’s live sports. Will I watch? Probably not. FOX is usually the station to carry it and my FOX station doesn’t come in very well.

Baseball this week would have been a light week had I not taken a small trip into Virginia. Games in Harrisburg, possibly Washington, York, Baltimore and maybe Lancaster. It would have been Opening Day for York and Opening Weekend for Lancaster. Would have been a cold weekend this weekend though. In lieu of Opening Day the Revolution opened the stadium up and was going to let you drive around the warning track if you ordered some chicken tenders and fries. I went down since I do miss me some chicken tenders and fries and driving around the warning track was neat, though I have walked it up in Reading. There is also the possibility that this is the only time I will set foot in a baseball stadium this year. I hope that’s not the case but since the gov extended the lockdown until June I am becoming more convinced that it will be. I would like someone to explain why Allegheny County is able to reopen but York, Adams and Perry can’t? Is it Franklin County? Am I going to have to wait for them? Might not since some of our local politicians are starting to grow backbones and might reopen York on their own. Or it could just be political pandering to the masses. We’ll find out. By the gov’s metrics we should be reopening.

The big news for the week was the weather. Last weekend it was summer-like this weekend we are back to winter. Saw snow flurries in the afternoon. I wasn’t sure last month if whenever we got flurries then was the latest but I am pretty sure that May 9th is the latest I have ever seen snow.
