The big question this week is whether my Christmas gift order will arrive from Amazon on time. I ordered it several weeks ago but being a cheapskate I went with the free shipping offer and I don’t use Amazon much so it is not worth it to upgrade to Prime. A few years ago my mom’s present got to spend its Christmas in Orlando so I am hoping to avoid that but that is up to Amazon now isn’t it? Lucky present. Well it came on Monday so I don’t have to worry. Also made my weekly stop in at Gift Horse. They’ll be closed next Monday so I might have to go somewhere else before my yearly viewing of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Collusion perhaps.
Another somewhat dull week sports wise. Tuesday saw Central come into York High. York hasn’t beaten Central in 3 years so York is certainly due. That kind of dominance is hard to do to the Bearcats. Only the Harrisburgs and Readings of the world can do that. I can’t think of anyone else who has been able to do that for that long. Sure there have been some down times within the past 15 years (and down for York is a .500 season) and some teams have swept the season series but to do it for as long as Central has done it is rare.
York led this one wire to wire and was in control the entire game. Central never really got within closing distance and eventually York just kept adding to the lead winning 74-49. Now to be fair Central was without 2 starters but they would not have been enough to make up 25 points on this night. Now if we can just win at Central in a few weeks.
Finished up my Christmas shopping. Now it is time to do my world famous wrapping job. Let’s just say everyone can tell which gift is from me by the wrapping job. I’m not very good at it.
On Friday York went to Red Lion. This is one of those times that I wish that Black Cap was still open. I do miss that place. It wound up being a moot point since the grill at work was fired up on a 63 degree December day for burgers. The JV game was over rather quickly (less than an hour!) and featured not one but two dunks. I think I’ve seen more JV dunks this year than every other year combined. The varsity game was hard to watch. York was flat to start but still had a 20 point lead at half since Red Lion was even worse. They couldn’t do anything right and their star player had 4 fouls on him at half (nice call Steve Schmehl to send him back out with 2 and 3 fouls in the second quarter). The Lions performed better in the second half but the game was never in doubt as York wins 69-45. This was hard to watch due to the play but also the number of fouls. It seemed like every trip down was a foul somewhere and it was both teams getting whistled. Just hard to watch.
Saturday took me up to Harrisburg for the Juniata ruggers Festivus party at the Midstate Distillery. Stopped for a slice at Pizza Boy before heading over and picked up the seasonal release from Gunpowder Falls too. Yes I was invited to a Christmas party, see I do have friends! I’ve been invited to two parties in fact but the other is after Christmas. On Sunday I moved more stuff. The house is getting pretty empty now. Down to pretty much the big stuff and some dishes and silverware.
