Almost Christmas and I finally started my shopping. This week was a bit more boring than last week as not much was going on outside of high school basketball. So I continued to do my Christmas shopping. Made my weekly stop at Gift Horse for a cold one on Monday. These next two weeks or so will be nice. Most of the little stuff is now out of the house so most of what is left is the larger things and the necessities. It’s time to start doing some cleaning I guess. Nah.
On Tuesday York High went to Spring Grove. This is not the Spring Grove teams with Eli Brooks. Last year Spring Grove stayed somewhat close in the varsity game but the JV game was a demolition. If I remember correctly Spring Grove was shut out for 2 of the 4 quarters in the JV game at York and they were held to single digits for the game. I had never saw that. Both games tonight were over relatively quickly with the mercy rule clock starting in the third quarter for both games. It was ugly. There was even a JV dunk. Varsity won 84-30.
On Friday I was awake early to take the cat to the vet so he could have his teeth cleaned. He has the early stages of gingivitis so I was hoping that the bill would not be too much. Since he was getting knocked out I had to pull his (and his adopted brother’s) food at 8 PM. Well about 3 AM his stomach started taking over and no food was to be found. So what does he do? Go upstairs and wake me up. This continued off and on every 15-20 minutes until about 5:30 so when I got up at 6:30 to get him out to the vet I was in no mood for him to run and hide. His brother slept on the bed and waited for me to get up. We see who the alpha cat is. Fortunately he made it easy to get him when the time came to get him into the carrier for a foggy drive to the vet. The procedure wound up being worse than expected. He had 3 teeth that needed to be pulled in addition to a cleaning and in the end the total bill was all but $900. That takes a bite out of the ol’ checking account. Good thing I like the little fellow…
With that out of the way Dallastown came to take on York High. The JV game was for the most part a blowout. Dallastown jumped out early in the varsity game and was up 11 at the end of the first quarter. Things went downhill for them from there. They held a 1 point lead at the half and York took control in the third when the 3 balls started falling. They scored 30 points in 5 minutes in the 4th to put the game out of reach winning 80-48. We’ll see how they do against Central and Red Lion next week.
Got most of my amorous activities over on the weekend on Saturday. Picked up some Martians Kidnap Santa Eggnog Stout at the Beer Barn for my yearly Christmas Eve tradition of viewing the MST3K episode Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Did some more Christmas shopping, almost done now. Just have to run up to Harrisburg one day next week. Then it was over to take in the West York/New Oxford game and since I was in West York I pulled in to Crystal Ball’s West York location for a post game cold one. In a back and forth affair West York held on to defeat the Ox by 5. Not a terribly entertaining game.
On Sunday I moved some more stuff. Got a good bit of stuff out of my current place. You don’t realize how much stuff you have until you have to move it. There’s still plenty of stuff still to move, don’t get me wrong but most of the small stuff is down at the new place. Should be moving into the new place in early January. It’ll take a few weeks to get the beer bottle collection up and then all of you can bask in its glory too.
