Spent the afternoon in Winston-Salem after coming in from the east. For the most part navigating the town is easy but my directions took me onto a highway that as of my visit did not exist as it was being rebuilt. It was a good thing that there was a sign telling me that on the interstate. Visited a few breweries downtown before trying to park. General parking is in a few lots north of the stadium and across the street from it. They were not easy to find for a first timer like me but I eventually did notice the sign for it. Parking was $7, expensive for any level of minor league baseball.
The funny thing here was that the person I was with said that the box office had to be along the front of the stadium, or off of the road coming into town. Well it wasn’t. I told him that the box office would be where the people go in, or center field but he didn’t believe me until walking completely around the park.
Walking up to the park gave me a similar view to that of Altoona.
They do offer lawn seats for cheap but most seats are expensive for this level, even before the day of game fee. Is Winston-Salem an expensive place to live? I was going to be spending only about half of the game here since I had a long drive to make and I didn’t go for an expensive seat. Paid $12 to sit in the outfield.
You enter at center field and it was easy to find the seats. They did not open the gates until 45 minutes before the game rather than the usual 1 hour so there was some extra standing around on a muggy night. Usual food and fare but the souvenir soda is in a plastic mason jar rather than your typical cup. That was different. A lot of people did spend their time in the Foothills Brewing section.
It was millennial night so the inning break segments were geared towards that. I did also receive a participation ribbon for attending the game. A lot of humorous segments making fun of millennial. Apparently I’m one but I’ve seen so many different definitions of what one is I don’t know for sure. Either way, I hung my participation ribbon proudly at home.
I was heading north towards Virginia so I headed towards US 52. Had to navigate through town to get there but downtown was empty by that part. Once Business 42 is completed it will be much easier.
This is a nice park for a one time visit. Locally to me Frederick is expensive as well (not quite this level) and it is a shorter drive (and free parking) so I’ll stick with that.
