The World Needs More Kevin

This Week in Kevin

Well, here we are the end of November. Haven’t started my holiday shopping yet. Monday started with a trip to take the other cat to the vet. Yep, he loved it. Totally. Turns out he has the beginnings of gingivitis so he’ll have to go back to get his teeth cleaned. I am so looking forward to that, both for trying to get the jump on him so I can get him in the carrier and for the bill. At least the good news is he is only a few ounces overweight, so he is at least still a lean, mean kitty machine. He wasn’t too happy with me when I brought him home but at least when I got back in the evening he seemed to be in a much better mood but his hindquarters are a bit sore from one of the shots. It was funny too that when I loaded the cat into the carrier the other one took off and went and hid in the cellar. He does not like going to the vet at all but this was not his time. When the kitty carrier was put away he was back to his normal squeaky self. Made my weekly stop at Gift Horse also to sample the new beer.

You may also notice that the comments section is now available. I didn’t want to do it but I’ve been nagged enough about it (OK, two people said something about it) that I finally set it up. No spam now, I will ruthlessly delete it. There is also a contact me form, not that I want any of you contacting me. I just wanted to do it. If you contact me chances are I will not respond, unless you want to give me money. Or beer. I don’t need to hear about your Nigerian Prince of an uncle or any of that. Got that all you Ukrainians and Russians who have been visiting my site and trying to break in. I’m wise to you. I have also started to finally work in virtually displaying the beer bottle collection almost a year after setting the pages up. I would doubt I’ll have it done by the New Year but I will hopefully have made some progress.

Another York College basketball game, this time against Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday. On the surface the Griffons looked pretty good and this game was competitive for a half. Gwynedd Mercy was extremely aggressive on defense and offense. They committed a lot of fouls on defense and a lot of offensive fouls too. In the second half the fouling continued and it looked like they were getting frustrated as York just simply poured it on. They couldn’t stop Jason Bady at all. York wins 85-62. Oh, and if you are wondering the cat has completely forgiven me and he is back to his cuddly annoying little self. That may be until he goes in to have his teeth and gums cleaned to combat early gingivitis in about 2 weeks and gets knocked out.

Saturday somewhat opened the high school season for me as York High scrimmaged against Susquehanna Township. They struggled a bit against Hempfield last week. I forgot about it but then I had to get down to DC to pick up my stein anyway so no regrets other than possible visits to 2 breweries in Lancaster County I just found out about. It seems like I find out about a new brewery over there every few weeks and that does not include Starview which hasn’t opened yet. Both teams seemed fairly even and I have no idea who scored more. It’s a scrimmage so I’m not worried about it. Lots of work to do on the defense.

Speaking of breweries I haven’t hit Center Square in Abbottstown either yet. But that was all moot since York’s sixth downtown brewery opened up this week at Old Forge. Following the scrimmage I headed down and since Crystal Ball is right around the corner I stopped in there as well. Walked to and fro stopping in at Collusion as well since I walked right by that. That was about it for the excitement for the weekend. Just wound up moving more stuff and cleaning my basement out. The old place is getting pretty empty. I considered going to the Bears game on Sunday but it was Teddy Bear Toss night and that takes about 25-30 minutes to clean up. I went once, I can skip it now.

And finally just to get some baseball in here in Kevin’s predictions for the Baseball Hall of Fame balloting. We’ll see how spot on this is come January.

Welcome to Cooperstown:
Edgar Martinez, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettite

You’ll get in but not this year:
Roger Clemens (posthumously perhaps or Veteran’s Committee), Barry Bonds (same), Curt Schilling, Omar Vizquel, Roy Halladay, Todd Helton

I could see you getting in but it’s going to take a lot:
Mike Mussina, Gary Sheffield, Michael Young

The only way you’re getting in is buying a ticket like me:
Fred McGriff (I think he’s a Hall of Famer but the voters don’t agree), Larry Walker, Manny Ramirez, Jeff Kent, Billy Wagner, Scott Rolen, Sammy Sosa, Andruw Jones, Lance Berkman, Roy Oswalt, Miguel Tejada, Placido Polanco, Kevin Youklis, Derek Lowe, Freddy Garcia, Vernon Wells, Ted Lilly, Travis Hafner, Jason Bay, Jon Garland, Darren Oliver, Juan Pierre, Rick Ankiel

Kevin’s Ballot would be:
Edgar Martinez, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettite, Curt Schilling, Omar Vizquel, Roy Halladay, Todd Helton, Mike Mussina, Gary Sheffield and Fred McGriff.
