Well, boring week this week. No sports to go see until late in the week. York College’s season is over and the PIAA playoffs don’t begin until Friday. I’ll ride that as long as York High goes and for the state finals. It’s not that I enjoy watching blowouts but it gives me a good excuse to stop in at several Harrisburg-area breweries before sessions. The cats got to spend a lot of time with me this week and get reacquainted and was able to put a nice dent in the beer supply at home.
So, was there anything else to do? I began planning for this year’s Big Baseball Trip. I’m finding a lot more breweries to visit then I anticipated. Good thing since a lot of the attractions I’m planning on visiting just won’t take that long to see. I’m hitting some small battlefields from the Revolution and the Civil War and by small I mean just a monument along the side of the road. I’ll spend more time driving to it then actually visiting it. Either way I think I have the itinerary down, though Mt. Mitchell in North Carolina will depend on the weather. I scored big time when I went up Clingman’s Dome so I am hoping I can do the same with Mt. Mitchell. Also I’m adding some new stops like Andrew Johnson’s home in Tennessee and Davy Crockett’s Birthplace just up the road. So it should be a good time.
Made my weekly stop at Gift Horse on Monday. Might soon be time for another trip down to Baltimore soon. I think I’ll stop for a cold one at Oliver this time down. It’s a bit hard to get to over by Archbishop Curley but that is part of the charm. I’ll need to since the beer reserves will be running low by the end of the week with nothing else to do until Friday.
On Friday York High took on Chartiers Valley in the first round of the PIAA Tournament in Chambersburg. I used this as an excuse to make a stop at Gearhouse and Roy Pitz. Of course with my luck Untappd will bring out the Cumberland Valley Beer Trail Badge on Monday. They did that last year. I think I had just visited Chambersburg so it would have had to be the end of the March since I was there for the state semis between Pine-Richland and Roman Catholic, but it came out the next week meaning I missed two easy ones for the badge. Maybe this year though I will do the passport and win some free swag. I visit almost all of the places anyway, might as well get something out of it too.
Anyway, York led this one wire to wire. Chartiers Valley had two really good shooters but not much else. A lot of scoring in the fourth quarter as Chartiers Valley was trying to get back into the game which led to a lot of easy layups for York. York wins 85-73 setting up a second round matchup with WPIAL champ Mars at my guess would be Altoona.
Not much to do on Saturday. Went down to Baltimore to stock up the beer reserves at Total Wine and didn’t do much else. On Sunday I bowled. I haven’t bowled since high school and I didn’t do a very good job then either. Yeah, I suck at bowling and an old rugby injury where one of my fingers doesn’t straighten out doesn’t help either. It helps that there was free beer for the event and I live close to the Suburban Bowl-r-Rama. I was lucky to break 50 in the first game. I was doing better in the second game, was nearly at 70 when time ran out. Guess I just needed to warm up. Only threw 2 gutterballs in the second game. I did also throw a gutterball in the first game that took out five pins. Can’t make this up!
And baseball season is getting closer. So there is that…Wouldn’t know it by the weather but it is. I got my ticket for Opening Day with the Orioles. They’re opening with the Yankees, I’m sure that will be pretty though the Orioles did play they tough last year, but that was last year.
