The World Needs More Kevin

This Week in Kevin

Haka made his trip to the vet Tuesday morning. As was expected he was slightly overweight but in good health otherwise but he does have some earmites. He probably picked them up when he got out back in September and I got some eardrops to hopefully take care of it. It is going to be difficult, he does not want to get the drops. After bringing him home it was time for a haircut. Yep, my hair is starting to go over my ears and making me feel all ooky. It started snowing as I finished up.

Tuesday’s game against South Western was postponed due to said snow and postponed to Wednesday but on Wednesday I took my niece to her evening activities so I was unable to go. It turns out all of the schools in the county were closed so it was further postponed. I celebrated Richard Nixon Day on Thursday. Yes, I celebrate it every year. It’s a good time. Bought a special bottle of beer for it at Shy Bear last week. I also picked up a growler at Gift Horse on Monday as well, didn’t finish it though. Hit Collusion as well for a festive brew after work.

Friday brought New Oxford to York High in a rematch of last year’s league title game. York simply was too fast and quite possibly played their best game of the year. Rather than chucking up 3’s they took the ball inside and played tough defense. Combine that with a poor shooting night from New Oxford and it led to a good win for the Bearcats, even if New Oxford shot 3 times more free throws than York did. York wins 59-46.

Went over to Franklin and Marshall to take in the #1 team in all the land, Swarthmore. Who’d you think I was talking about? Gonzaga? Bellarmine? Pregame stops at Spring Gate and Iron Hill. Swarthmore has been #1 all season long and given what I’ve seen from F&M I didn’t think it was going to change. I think this is also the first time I have ever seen the #1 team play. I’ve seen top 10 before but never #1. The first 10 minutes was a defensive slugfest and it looked like the first one to 50 would win but Swarthmore began to pull away. F&M didn’t get into double digits until about 5 minutes left in the half. Swarthmore is a good defensive team and don’t expect to get an offensive rebound on them but offensively they looked ordinary. A lot of pick and rolls but they stuggled shooting from the land of 3. The start of the second half was an offensive foul fest and after that it settled down. I looked up and suddenly Swarthmore was up by 20 a few minutes later. F&M cut into it but never got it below 15 as Swarthmore had an answer every time and F&M struggled mightily at the line (a very un-F&M like 9-22 from the stripe). It just hasn’t been the year they expected for F&M as Swarthmore wins 68-53. And there were no 742 people there, the main seats were at best 50% filled and there were no students there.
