January is over, that month flew by. Made my weekly stop at Gift Horse to try the new Mint Chocolate Stout.
Tuesday brought a nice snow storm to the area. It snowed for several hours but only dropped 2-3 inches. It was enough to get most schools to cancel or dismiss early so no trip to South Western, which was postponed to next week. Wednesday brought Penn State Harrisburg to York College or at least I thought. York High’s game against William Allen was postponed due to the school being closed for the day. Turns out the college game was postponed as well to Thursday so the quandry of which game to go was solved. The game was a close affair until about 4 minutes to go when Harrisburg had one of their best players foul out. Every time that Harrisburg had gotten close York hit a shot to put them back up so Harrisburg was in the game but never really led and York busted it open late, despite a very poor night at the line. York wins 71-59.
On Thursday my car said it was 1 degree when I went off to work. Almost made it to the negatives. I’ve never seen a negative temperature. Made it down to 0 a few years ago. Close but no cigar.
Friday was supposed to conclude the high school regular season when New Oxford came to York but with the postponements that is no longer the case. This game was essentially for the division crown as York’s only remaining game is against no-league win South Western but thanks to another 2-3 inches of snow it was postponed to Saturday. First though on Saturday I went over to St. Boniface in Ephrata to pick up one of the limited release of bottles. The game was a close one, both teams went up and gave up the lead. With York’s second leading scorer still injured someone needed to pick up the slack and up from the JV team came Branden Mutunga who had a great game off of the bench. No one else really stood out and credit New Oxford with that but as time wound down York took the lead and New Oxford made enough mistakes when it mattered. York wins 46-43 and all but clinches the division.
So what to do on Sunday? York High’s game with William Allen was canceled. That leaves the Bearcats 2 games short of a full season since the Chester game was canceled as well. Not much you can do. One game left against South Western. I could have headed up to Reading for their hockey game Sunday but I didn’t. Just walked down to Collusion for a brew.
This will of course post as the Super Bowl is being played. You know who won, you don’t need my analysis. I might not even be watching. I didn’t watch last year and was just as happy. I just don’t find football as exciting as I used to. Since I listen to the Dan Patrick Show every day, or at least try to, I just find that too much football is discussed. Even in the offseason it gets brought up. I mean I know that it drives the ship but when you have to remind me of who a player is when they get traded or released you’re really hurting for football news. I know baseball is not the most glamorous sport but I at least find it more exciting than discussing who the Raiders’ third string middle linebacker will be in training camp that is weeks away.
