Another week stuck at home. Well not entirely. I did get a grass cutting in on Tuesday which did get me out of the house for about 3 hours. Didn’t take long for the grass to grow back but that’s not unusual for this time of year. It probably won’t take long again since it looked like we got 3 inches of rain on Monday in two different rain bands that went through and another on Tuesday night. The last one on Monday brought a nasty thunderstorm through with lots of thunder, lightning and rain. But as soon as it was over the sun came out and the wind picked up drying the grass so I had no problem getting it done Tuesday and we had nice sun for much of the rest of the week.
This would have been a big good week for baseball as the minor league season picked up. Trips to Hagerstown, Frederick, Harrisburg and more were on the docket including getting to meet up with an old friend at take in his team’s visit to Camden Yards. Might have even had a double header since Tuesday’s game might have been rained out. Nope, not to be. Thanks CCP. Would have hit lots of breweries and visited a few cool sites while I was at it. It’s depressing writing this since I have to think about what I could be doing, had the CCP not sat on their butts and ignored COVID-19 since it challenged their mantra of total control and the WHO backing them up (I’m perfectly cool with Trump cutting funding to them, another useless international agency). At least it looks like things are getting better and I hope I will be able to leave the lockdown by the end of the month. We’ll see if that happens. The first place I’ll probably head will be Gettysburg or the Abandoned PA Turnpike when things open up, which will hopefully be May 1. I’ve got big plans also for when Virginia opens back up too with lots of visits to small battlefields and expanded visits to past-visited battlefields. Gotta do something since I am doubtful that baseball will be played, at least with spectators. I hope I’m wrong in that regard. At the very least I’ll be the only person there so what’s the harm.
Getting well into Part one of Campaign of Giants. Didn’t finish it this week but I will very early next week. One criticism, could the author make a few breaks in the text? Each chapter is 40-50 pages long and there is no break in them. It makes it hard to pick up where I was when I have to take a break, like when the cat decides he wants some cuddle time. They have no scruples about walking right over me when they want something. But seriously, put a few breaks in there could ya? There’s been one so far.
As the week ends food reserves are still good as are beer and toilet paper reserves. I think my beer reserves can hold out through May or at least Memorial Day and I think my toilet paper reserves should last me for several months. Everything should hopefully be reopened by then so I can start stocking up for my Memorial Day BBQ. I did pick up a sixer at the Giant when I went out so things aren’t so bad in that regard. Plenty of booze there and I would imagine that Weis across the street is the same way. They even also had toilet paper and paper towels in stock.
The big thing on Thursday was that it snowed. I was sitting in my comfy chair doing some work and I looked out and it was snowing, and pretty good at that. Didn’t lay but this might be the latest in the year that I can remember seeing snow. Here in PA that is. I’ve seen snow in July in the Rockies.
A dull weekend. Chilly too. C’mon spring, I need you to get here and stay here. The only nice thing I can say about the CCP virus is that I don’t have to sit in a baseball stadium freezing. I’d still do it, I’m nuts like that. I did go pick up a sixer at Liquid Hero. Used their new walk-up window.
