Wales and South Africa Rugby at RFK 2018

When you get the opportunity to watch big time rugby you have to take it, especially when it is only 90 minutes from your house and tickets start at $25. I scooted on down to DC and hit some new breweries along the way. Rode the Metro in from Minnesota Ave since I didn’t feel like paying $25 to park and found the Juniata tailgate. I brought beer. The weather forecast for this was doom and gloom but one thunderstorm passed just to the south and outside of a steady rain in the pre-match hour it was just a muggy day. Tried tongue for the first time, the folks in the next tailgaiting spot made it and someone was passing out the South African snack Flings. They were good but I can buy comparable products here, they were just basically cheesy poofs.

Some gamepics. Wales led at half 14-3 on tries by Hallam Amos and Tomos Williams. South Africa came back in the second half on tries by Travis Ismaiel and Makazole Mapimpi and it was tied at 17 when Wales committed a penalty right in front of their own goal. With only a handful of minutes to go it seemed to be over but Wales pinned South Africa deep in their territory and Ryan Elias blocked a kick and fell on the loose ball to score the winning try. Wales wins 22-20.
