Allegheny Portage Railroad and the Johnstown Flood

Being a bobblehead collector you have to go where the bobbleheads are. In 2016 Altoona gave one away and then the next day Pittsburgh gave one away. Rather than driving back to York I stayed in Altoona for the night and took in a few sites. First was the Allegheny Portage Railroad, used to get canal boats over the mountains in the early days of travel using steam technology to pull canal boats on railroad cars. It was an engineering marvel of the time. Then it was on to the Johnstown Flood National Memorial.
