Coors Field
What was I doing in Denver? My dad had competed in the Open Boat Nationals the previous year in Richmond and decided to do it again, this time in Golden, Colorado. So out we went, he and I (with my new driver’s license in tow) drove out and my mom and brother would fly out a few days later. The Rockies were home at the time and playing the Dodgers so we went down. What happened after was a sad story. The baseball All Star break occurred when we left, not really a problem but my dad’s car died outside of Denver and we were stuck in Denver until we flew back a few days later. Suffice it to say this may be the only time I have ever been excited to see the All Star Game as nothing else was on at the time.
How did I get there?
Dad drove me to the park. Both times he parked in a lot across from the stadium. For the second game we went to dad had to go pick up mom and my brother from the airport. He dropped me off in downtown Denver and I just walked around for several hours until gametime. I remember someone was handing out free samples of chocolate rice krispy treats outside of the stadium and I had my fill and was sick to my stomach for about 10 hours.
Ticket prices
We had decent seats down the right field line for about $25 a piece. At the time this was one of the most modern parks in the game. I also remember the Rockpile seats were $5 a piece, a great bargain.
Finding my seat and amenities
Easy to find the seats. Didn’t eat anything so I don’t know what all was there.
In game experience
Don’t really remember anything other than the place was sold out for both games.
Getting out
From what I remember it was easy to get out and back onto the expressway to get back to Golden.
Wrap
Compared to the Vet and Three Rivers Stadium this was something new. I enjoyed the time here and hope to get back one day. This was the first park that I saw a pitcher hit a home run and that piece of Kevin trivia is Carlos Perez of the Dodgers. Raul Mondesi of the Dodgers also unleashed a throw from right field that Roberto Clemente would have been proud of.
