Baseball in Pennsylvania changed in 2008 when the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs came to town. Since then they have been one of minor league baseball’s top draws and I believe they are the top apparel team in the minors. Heck, when driving in Atlanta I saw someone with an Iron Pigs hat in West Atlanta. This is a beautiful park and there is nothing bad I can say about it. I usually show up for the bobblehead giveaways and when the Indianapolis Indians come to town but I have come up for other games.
I typically come up 222 through Reading and Kutztown and then take Hamilton Street through the city to the American Parkway. I used to take 22 to the park but got tired of sitting in traffic at rush hour.
$8 for a lawn seat and with rail to stand at I can be behind home plate. It not much more expensive for a seat. Parking is $5, which seems to be on par with the rest of the minors.
Easy to find the seats like with most minor league parks. The food options here are major league quality. The Aw Shucks Corn is my favorite ballpark snack, and that isn’t just my opinion alone. You can get just about whatever you might want here and prices aren’t too too bad.
The usual stuff, T-shirt tosses, a coozie toss and people dressed up in costumes racing, in this case meats. Go Diggety! The bathrooms used to have a urinal where you could play games while you went. It wasn’t back in 2017, guess it didn’t catch on. I got to play rugby once while relieving myself.
For the most part this is easy. For a well attended game (and most games are) traffic can stack up but there are multiple exits and ways to get back to 22 or go downtown. You can get to 22 via Airport Road or Fullerton Avenue.
This stadium is the gold standard that I measure other baseball parks by. So far a few have measured up. The fans are passionate and the team draws over 600,000 fans a year. This is a must see park if you like minor league baseball.
