I had driven by this stadium several times before I decided to come and see a game. Don’t quite know why it took so long. The first game I saw featured the late Yordano Ventura squaring off against Dylan Bundy. I don’t get to see the future Royals anywhere else so this is a nice stop for me.
US 30 to PA 896 to PA 372 to PA 41 to DE 2 to DE 100 to DE 2. Got that? It can take 90 minutes to get here or it can take 2 hours to get here, it depends. Parking is free though. The area is being somewhat built up. There are small restaurants and stores in the plaza across the street as well as an entertainment venue and Iron Hill Brewing has a location across the street from the stadium too.
Middle of the road. Can get in for $8 for general admission $14 for nice seats near the dugout. Since my dad’s friend who goes with me likes the Myrtle Beach Pelicans he splurges for those games.
Easy to find the seats. General admission is the large grandstand down the third base line and is benches only. Most of the other seats were benches only as well but the park was renovated in 2016 and is now all seats except for general admission. Food selection is mostly stadium fare though there are a few exceptions like a grilled cheese place, a nice sausage place and Chickies and Petes fries out in right field.
The usual in-game entertainment with trivia and T-shirt tosses and kids games. They do have a guy who dresses up in a celery costume and comes out and does a little dance every time the Blue Rocks score just like in Altoona. Apparently an intern was sent to a costume store and told to get the cheapest costume they could find and Mr. Celery was born. I also do like their mascot Rocky Bluewinkle.
Not hard, just back the way I came. The only real holdup is getting back onto DE 4 since the light at Beech St. is not that long. How long it takes to get home depends on how many trucks and Charlie slowpokes I get stuck behind on PA 41. I call them Chucks, or Chuckettes if its a woman. Or it could be a Chuck In a Truck. Irrelevant to this but I like to say it.
This isn’t the best park around but I like it. The only problem is that Frederick is closer to me so if I want to see Carolina League action I usually go there. There was talk of the Mets moving out of Binghamton and taking on the Blue Rocks as their Eastern League team, which would have required an expensive renovation which the team was willing to do. That’s the difference between A ball and AA ball.
