Prince George’s Stadium

Opened: June 16, 1994

Capacity: 10,000

Affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles

On a day with light traffic this is an easy park to get to. Try to get here during rush hour and it is not so easy. Like most of their other affiliates the Baysox are situated right in the heart of Birdland, meaning the parent club’s fans are nearby so they do turn out. I’ve heard all kinds of things over the years about different scenarios that would affect the team. Like when the Nationals came into existence they wanted Bowie to be their AAA club and were willing to trade affiliates with the Orioles, so Harrisburg would have become an Orioles affiliate and would also move to AAA. Frederick would have then moved to AA and the new Carolina League team would have been moved to York. That would have been great for me, but it didn’t happen. Either way I make it down here about 5 times a year.

How did I get there?

Around the Baltimore Beltway, south on I-97 exiting at Maryland Route 3 and following that to the stadium. You would think that staying on 97 and heading over on 50 would be faster but it really isn’t. Parking is free in a large lot.

Ticket prices

Prices here are not cheap. It is almost more expensive to attend a Baysox game than an Orioles or Nationals game. They start at about $13 and go up to $18. While you get a much better view for your buck that is not cheap for the minors. I take advantage of being an Oriole season ticket holder and get the 2 for 1 ticket deal when I can and I’ve sat right behind home plate as well. Couldn’t do that at Camden Yards!

Finding my seat and amenities

The seats are easy to find. I’ve sat all over the park, from down the lines to right behind home plate. Like with most minor league parks there is not a bad seat in the house. They have a lot of the normal stadium fare and not really a lot else.

In game experience

They have a female PA announcer, which is different. She’s been on the job for a long time and does a great job. They bill themselves as the Kid’s Capitol so most of the entertainment is geared towards kids.

Getting out

It is relatively easy to get out. Multiple lanes head out to the highway and since I am turning right it is a bit easier for me, since the light is short. There is a shopping center here also so traffic (like everywhere else in the DMV) can be heavy.

Wrap

I’ve never had a bad experience here. I’ve had some hot ones as it can get very hot here with very little shade. I’ve also stood in line for a long time for some of the bobbleheads. People begin lining up there for a 2:00 PM Sunday game at 9:00 AM, so get there early. I bring a chair and a cool drink and read a book so its not so hard to pass the time.
