It was supposed to be a wet week this week, or at least so said weather.com. Yeah, that didn’t happen. It threw off my grass cutting schedule, which I did on Tuesday. In a way it worked just as well. I was going to do it Friday with a Saturday backup but the chances of rain moved to those days so I moved my date.
Defied the travel restrictions and went out to my aunt’s house to set up her lawn furniture though her county has had it lifted the week before. I didn’t think the cops would bust my balls over this and they didn’t, in fact I didn’t see a single one outside of a Chambersburg cop. Made a stop at the Abandoned Turnpike for a nice stroll afterwards to kill some time. It was a nice walk, I needed the exercise and I made my way into the ventilator fan room which I did not the last time that I was there. I know they don’t really want you going in there but there is nothing to stop you and this time there was a sign that said enter at your own risk. Those are some big fans there. The roof isn’t doing to well and it was pretty muddy in there but someone was nice enough to put a plank down to walk over the mud. I also found the access for the space above the roadway that would allow workers to change the overhead lights. Didn’t go down that, just took pics from the doorways. I did walk back the tunnel until it became pitch black and my phone’s flashlight was not cutting it. There is some pretty sweet graffiti in there, some real skill went into it. I would say I was about 1/3 of the way through the tunnel and you can definitely see the curvature of the Earth with the tunnel.
On the way back I stopped in Chambersburg to visit Roy Pitz (sometimes humorously I will call it my buddy Roy) and Gearhouse. I checked their Facebook pages to see whether they were open figuring someone would mention a temporary change in hours. Well, they were both closed. That sucks. So I drove home. I might be back in the area next weekend since a visit to the Antietam Battlefield might be in order. We’ll see, it looks like rain next Saturday but it will be warm. Gotta get out and let sunlight be the best disinfectant.
The Revolution were back open for chicken tenders and fries on Friday so I went down. I might be all chickened out soon. Stopped in at Collusion on the way home for a crowler fill.
Made a beer run on Saturday over into lockdown country to scenic Ephrata (which it didn’t seem like anyone was heeding with the traffic volume). First stop was St. Boniface for some cans to go, then to Black Forest for a growler fill before finally stopping at Pour Man’s for some more cans to go. First time to Pour Man’s, but since I could only get cans to go it wasn’t much of an experience. We’ll see what it’s like after the CCP virus has run its course. I would have stopped already had baseball season been underway. I also saw that Gift Horse was selling cheap growler fills so I partook, I guess they need to unload their inventory since they haven’t been open during this whole thing. My fridge is well stocked for beer now.
All prepared for my Backyard BBQ. Since the lockdown is over that means it can go forward, not that it is all that big of an event nor would it have really stopped me. New for this year will be a small amount of teriyaki chicken. We’ll see how this goes. No baseball to go to, so this is the first bit of normalcy for the baseball season for me. I haven’t attended a Memorial Day game in some time because of this, I think this is the 10th or 11th installment.
And Sunday was prep day. I didn’t need to go anywhere or spend any money. Lots of chicken, 2 packs of sausage, 20 ears of corn and baked potatoes. I took burgers off the menu, no one ever ate them though my mom says she did. It was for that reason and also the price of beef. Marinated it overnight, lots of BBQ and some Italian chicken too and I have some chicken to go into the slow cooker for BBQ pulled chicken. I’ll make some rice to go with it and I have tortillas too with some shredded cheese. I like it when I make it anyway.
